Two of the world’s most successful biotechnology products – Epogen and Neupogen – were discovered and developed through the use of in vitro assays involving blood stem cell technologies. VistaGen’s proprietary Embryonic Stem (“ES”) cell technologies go beyond these initial approaches by harnessing the biological power of ES cells to develop screening assays and drug discovery tools for potentially ANY cells of the human body. Currently, the technologies are most advanced for blood, heart, liver, pancreas and neuronal biology. | ||
| In the body there are likely to be unique cell-type-specific proteins that regulate the drug target and modify the effect of the drug in vivo. It is this native drug target complex that must be regulated correctly for the drug to have the desired therapeutic effect. VistaGen’s ES cell technologies address this critical issue by enabling the development of information-rich drug screening assays based on mature and clinically-relevant cells. These types of cells contain all of necessary regulatory proteins to produce the therapeutically relevant drug target complex. |   |
